Happy Halloween

HAPPY HALLOWEEN: "Halloween (or Hallowe’en) is an international holiday celebrated on October 31. Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, ghost tours, bonfires, costume parties, visiting haunted attractions, carving jack-o'-lanterns, reading scary stories, and watching horror movies. Irish immigrants carried versions of the tradition to North America in the nineteenth century. Other western countries embraced the holiday in the late twentieth century. Halloween is celebrated in several countries of the Western world, most commonly in the United States, Canada, Ireland, Puerto Rico, Japan, New Zealand, United Kingdom, and at times in parts of Australia. In Sweden the All Saints' official holiday takes place on the first Saturday of November." [source: Wikipedia] Have fun and get scared --- Kjell

"Kona, Hawaii 2008; at the entrance to the award ceremony on Sunday, October 12 we did our last podcast. The race was tough, whether it was tougher than last year is difficult to say. As a spectator one observes that briefly after the race athletes always consider the respective race as the toughest ever. Moscow: "After settlers arrived in 1871, the town became know as "Paradise Valley". In 1877, Samuel Neff filed for a postal permit under the name of Moscow because the area reminded him of his home town of Moscow, Pennsylvania.
In 1875, the city's first store was opened on what is now Main Street. Moscow grew with the arrival of the railroad in 1885. Big news - "WTC sold to private equity firm"

"Ironman Triathlon's new owner is Providence Equity Securities. In a sale completed within the last 48 hours, World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) transferred all its equity to a new corporation called World Endurance Holdings.
Providence Equity is large, as private equity firms go, with total committed capital of $21 billion. It specializes in media and entertainment. Its holdings include a large commitment to television, and one recent acquisition was all of Clear Channel's TV stations. It also owns a variety of cable providers, as well as Univision, the largest Spanish network in the U.S. The firm owns Warner Music, and the MGM brand along with theater chains." ... hope it is true...

This was beautiful, hope it is true!
A little girl went to her bedroom and pulled a glass jelly jar from its hiding place in the closet. She poured the change out on the floor and counted it carefully. Three times, even. The total had to be exactly perfect. No chance here for mistakes.
Carefully placing the coins back in the jar and twisting on the cap, she slipped out the back door and made her way 6 blocks to Rexall's Drug Store with the big red Indian Chief sign above the door.
She waited patiently for the pharmacist to give her some attention, but he was too busy at this moment. Tess twisted her feet to make a scuffing noise. Nothing. She cleared her throat with the most disgusting sound she could muster. No good. Finally she took a quarter from her jar and banged it on the glass counter. That did it!
'And what do you want?' the pharmacist asked in an annoyed tone of voice. I'm talking to my brother from Chicago whom I haven't seen in ages,' he said without waiting for a reply to his question.
'Well, I want to talk to you about my brother,' Tess answered back in the same ! annoyed tone. 'He's really, really sick...and I want to buy a miracle.'
'I beg your pardon?' said the pharmacist.
'His name is Andrew and he has something bad growing inside his head and my Daddy says only a miracle can save him now. So how much does a miracle cost?'
'We don't sell miracles here, little girl. I'm sorry but I can't help you ,' the pharmacist said, softening a little. 'Listen, I have the money to pay for it. If it isn't enough, I will get the rest. Just tell me how much it costs.'
The pharmacist's brother was a well dressed man. He stooped down and asked the little girl, 'What kind of a miracle does your brother need?'
'I don't know,' Tess replied with her eyes welling up. I just know he's really sick and Mommy says he needs an operation. But my Daddy can't pay for it, so I want to use my money.'
'How much do you have?' asked the man from Chicago .
'One dollar and eleven cents,' Tess answered barely audibly.
'And it's all the money I have, but I can get some more if I need to.'
'Well, what a coincidence,' smiled the man.! 'A dollar and eleven cents---the exact price of a miracle for little brothers.'
He took her money in one hand and with the other hand he grasped her mitten and said, 'Take me to where you live. I want to see your brother and meet your parents. Let's see if I have the miracle you need.'
That well dressed man was Dr. Carlton Armstrong, a surgeon, specializing in neuro-surgery. The operation was completed free of charge and it wasn't long until Andrew was home again and doing well. Mom and Dad were happily talking about the chain of events that had led them to this place. 'That surgery, her Mom whispered, was a real miracle. I wonder how much it would have cost?'
Tess smiled. She knew exactly how much a miracle cost...one dollar and eleven cents....plus the faith of a little child.
In our lives, we never know how many miracles we will need. [source: unknown]

"Avoid Mental Self-destruction"

I found this articel and liked it allot, so I wanna share it: "Mentally Focus on the Positive, Create a Positive Reality. In addition to the story above, here are a few tips to help you move to a more positive mental state. These tips are focused on athletics; but, they can be used in many other aspects of your life.
1. Speak well of your health.
2. Visualize and speak well of your athletic abilities.
3. Look for incremental successes and believe you can improve.
4. Set your own standards of success.
5. Write it down.
6. Spend time with friends that are optimistic and seek personal improvement.
7. "Live to great success, not to avoid failure."... " [source: activ.com] Think positive --- Kjell

3athlon repord/bericht

"Ein Spaziergang wird der Versuch das Erbe Twelsieks anzugehen wird nicht einfach werden. Der Kanadier Luke Dragsta gilt neben dem Australier Jason Shortis als ein Top-Favorit auf den Titel und einer der wenigen Slots für Kona. Doch ausgerechnet aus dem deutschsprachigen Raum droht Fachbach ebenfalls hartnäckige Konkurrenz im Kampf um Slot, Prämie und das Podium. Next big one

My next race: "Ford Ironman Wisconsin takes place in a sports-crazy town that is known as one of the best spots to bike in the United States, along with being the site of the University of Wisconsin, America's premier "party college." Those two attributes have a bit to do with why this race is so popular and so successful, but there is a lot more to the magic that makes this such a hugely successful event.
The two-loop Ironman Wisconsin swim takes place in the warm waters (75 degrees Fahrenheit/ 24 degrees Celsius) of Lake Monona. The competitors don't have to leave the water at the end of the first loop - they'll just swim straight around the corner of the swim start to begin the second loop.
Like the swim, the bike course in Madison is a two-loop affair. After running up the "helix" or ramp up to the transition area in the parking lot here at the Monona terrace, the competitors jump on their bikes and ride down the opposite "helix" to start the ride." The power of mind ...

"Once upon a time there was a bunch of tiny frogs.... who arranged a running competition. The goal was to reach the top of a very high tower. A big crowd had gathered around the tower to see the race and cheer on the contestants....
The race began....
Honestly:
No one in the crowd really believed that the tiny frogs would reach the top of the tower. You heard statements such as:
'Oh, WAY too difficult!!'
'They will NEVER make it to the top.'
or:
'Not a chance that they will succeed. The tower is too high!'
The tiny frogs began collapsing. One by one.... Except for those, who in a fresh tempo, were climbing higher and higher.. The crowd continued to yell,
'It is too difficult!!! No one will make it!'
More tiny frogs got tired and gave up.... But ONE continued higher and higher and higher.... This one wouldn't give up! At the end everyone else had given up climbing the tower. Except for the one tiny frog who, after a big effort, was the only one who reached the top! THEN all of the other tiny frogs naturally wanted to know how this one frog managed to do it?
A contestant asked the tiny frog how he had found the strength to succeed and reach the goal? It turned out.... That the winner was DEAF!!!!

The wisdom of this story is:
Never listen to other people's tendencies to be negative or pessimistic.... because they take your most wonderful dreams and wishes away from you -- the ones you have in your heart!
I like this story, thanks Deborah for mailing me the runningstory --- Kjell

2 nights an Airports

Realy I have to spend 2 hights at different aiports. That sounds pretty bad, but honestly I'm very happy if that all works out. Traveling those days is getting more and more challenging. The luggage situation is realy bad and than countrys like china, where you are not allowed to be at the airport and wait for your flight for longer than 24h. You need even for that a Visa. What if I have to sit there for more hours, like me? They just block your ticket and you cannot leave to get there. Finally United was so nice to change my tickets and now I stay one night in Busan (South Korea). Later today, I will catch my flight to Bejing airport where I need to figure out what to do until tomorrow. It will be fun, I´m sure. I keep you updated --- Kjell

Awards today ...

Well the awards are today and I´m excited what will happen. I´m thinking going on stage with a shirt that says, I´m not a liar, I wanted to race and have the best win. Thats the idea of longdistance racing and not a stage for important people to show their given power. Sorry thats wrong. And I do not blame the Racedirector or anyone from the team for that situation, I just hope the follow the right path and make some consequences. I keep you all updated and if anyone has a suggestion, let me know. Thanks --- Kjell

FXXX over ...

... I´m so mad, even the final solutions is not made. Well it was far from beeing a perfect day here on Jeju (Korea Triathlon Jeju 2008), but I would have won this thing, if everyone wanted. But it looks like the head-referee didnt. It´s new to me to get a drafting card, when you get! passed and say something to that athlet, all within a few seconds on a small inclime. Thats excatly what happened. I will not let that be that way! So far I´m second place, but we are talking about first and second in a longdistance race, that doesnt happen to often, if your are not Macca;-) I let you know --- Kjell

MAIL-ignorance

I call it "MAIL-ignorance" and it is a disease in our new communication world. I thought mails are on the way to be a formal medium, but no they are not. I´m in progress to organize my trips, my races, my visa and plenty other things. Some of them worldwide, so Mails are a great thing, I can do them whenever I want to. But recently I experienced that people do not reply my mails. Even if you disagree or you are bussy, there is allways a minute for a short sentence. I take the time and sometimes I have to write: "more later or sorry I´m very bussy right now!" And that is fine, much better than getting ignored. So lets get back and reply mails --- Kjell

Ironman Coeur d´Alene ...

... is on the way. And I have to thank you Ironman Coeur d´Alene for bringing me together with Blake. We met last year during the carboloading, where I brought here some cookies, because she was to lazy. Here brother Matt is getting ready to rock&roll on sunday. I hope the wind is going done, so the conditions will be nicer. not the happiest camper on earth - me last year finishing the race. the racelocation is a beauty, for sure
Matt relax now and kick it on sunday, remember: "For some sports you need a ball, for Triathlon you need two!" --- Kjell

Have a Quilt

I defently have enough t-shirts for an Keepsake Theme Quilt, but not the time to decide witch onces I wanna use. I´m sure my reaction will be close to this one: "My family and I will treasure this beautiful tshirt quilt forever. It is truly a "keepsake" in every sense of the word!!" - Jeanne Reynoldsburg, OH [source: Keepsake Theme Quilte] I counted the t-shirt I got this year, just for fun and I made it up to 9 shirts allready. I total I don´t know, probably arround 100. Enjoy --- Kjell

Swimming

I got my first good picture during the swim in a triathlon. My sister Sinje took this picture on the weekend. It was easier, because we where swimming twice arround a bridge at the beach in Niendorf - Baltic Sea. Have a fun swim --- Kjell

to much

I know for the majority it is hard to get, but this crazyness arround soccer drives me nuts. Ok, I´m not a big soccer fan anyways, but what is going one here back home is just way to much. The European Championships started the "flagging" (you see every other car with a german flag) again. There is a article in a german Magazin about the "flagging": "Köhler und Künast erfreut über Fahnenmeer!" [source: spiegel.de] Well it´s over soon --- Kjell

Good start ...

I won the Ostsee Triathlon. So it was a good start in my double weekend. But after 300 on the bike, the days before I´m tired and my legs hurt. Let´s see how the Hachede Triathlon goes today. Thanks to Biestmilch and the Booster, they get me kicked off and recouvered allot faster. Have a fun sunday --- Kjell

Friday the 13th

I made it through the friday the 13th! Uff that was a close call. I do not like this day at all.

Plus I will do the Ostsee Triathlon later in the day. We will see how that goes. Happy feet --- Kjell

Baltic Sea

I will jump in the Baltic Sea today. The expected watertemperatur is allright. Allot warmer than the water during the Ironman 70.3 Boise. Happy swimming --- Kjell

On the way to my Grandmo

Today, I will ride my bike to my grandmo. She is so excited to see me after 6 month. I´m too. I miss Blake allot. It will take me good 3 hour to get there and than I have to do another 15k running. My coach Peter wants to kick it, even with some races on the weekend. He is the boss. Thanks Peter. Happy training --- Kjell
