1. Mai

"The first day in "the lovely month of May" (Camelot) is a national holiday in Germany, Austria, and most of Europe. International Workers' Day is observed in many countries around the globe on May 1. But there are other German May customs that reflect the end of winter and the arrival of warmer days.
Tag der Arbeit - 1. Mai
Oddly, the widespread custom of celebrating Labor Day on the first of May (am ersten Mai) was inspired by events in the United States, one of the few countries that does not observe Labor Day in May! In 1889, a congress of world socialist parties was held in Paris." [source: about.com] A great long weekend --- Kjell

eting Chris McCormack, our social butterfly, at Starbucks in Santa Monica

"Chris is not only an extraordinary athlete, he is also a phenomenon that he himself termed as social butterfly (for him his father is a social butterfly, and Chris got not only one feature from him), he is here and he is everywhere else. People feel attracted by him, and this applies not only to females, that’s, of course, what everybody would expect, but also to males. Chris is a magnet in the crowd." YES

"The crowd expected to see a special presentation of a plaque but Farley reached into his pocket and assumed the position on one knee and spoke to Dalby, "Will you marry me?." There was silence as the response was held at bay and a few seconds later Dalby replied, "Yes."!" [source: runningwashington] Congratulations --- Kjell

back on the road

Writing this from Shanghai (China) Airport. So I made the first flight out of four until I arrive in Spokane. Next stop will be Vancouver Canada, from there to Seattle USA and then finaly to Spokane USA. Honestly it wasn´t to bad traveling without my bike, but I´m happy to have it back. Happy recouvery --- Kjell

do you know 113 or lets say 45 ...

I do now! That is like standing in front of your oven after backing a cake and trying to push yourself for hours. The news from ironman.com: "On a day that saw temperatures rise to 45 degrees Celsius (113 Fahrenheit) survival became the mantra for the athletes" Two and a half days are not enough to get used to that kind of heat. Now, rest-rest-rest --- Kjell

BD in China

I had a hard day here in Haikou. It was obvious, that I did quite a few hickups in the last weeks before the race. I learn and do it differently next time for sure! Because of my condition, my racerepords follows in the next days. Congrats to everyone and sorry for Tim Marr, that´s to bad --- Kjell

Need some motivation ?

Here we go: "I against Me"
[source: Tri2b] Well done Dennis and Team --- Kjell

Approved !!!

Going back to the US on Tuesday. This time it was no problem at all to get the Authorization for my Tourist VISA Approved
"Your travel authorization has been approved and you are authorized to travel to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program. This does not guarantee admission to the United States; a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer at a port of entry will have the final determination." [source: ESTA] --- Kjell

AHA ...

[source: Wiener Zeitung] --- Kjell

Preview IM China

I dont think the weather is bad at all. Even it would sound great at home, that I had another race with brutal conditions. But at the moment it doesnt look bad at all. We will see.
"Balmy blue skies are greeting athletes arriving in Hainan for the second Ironman China and Ironman 70.3 China, both presented by K-SWISS. There is no sign of the stormy weather that brought a typhoon to China's tropical south just days before the inaugural race in 2008. Still, as Ironman Chinawas labelled by many experienced athletes as being the toughest in the Ironman series, there is much speculation about the weather as the mercury appears to be rising." [source: ironman.com] It feels like we have a german speaking invasion. Allmost 10% of the starter are from german speaking countries --- Kjell

Right from the Pressconference

... here on Hainan in Haikou. The race will be capture on sunday by Mr. Peter Henning, who won multiple Emmy Awards for his Sport shows.
Check out news on the Ironman China Blog!
Oh, and the news about a missing bike from one of the racefavourits Joseph Major sounds familiar to me. Hope you find one!
Lets have a fair race on Sunday ...
From the scene --- Kjell

HAIKOU

"Haikou (simplified Chinese: 海口; pinyin: Hǎikǒu), situated at the north of Hainan island, is the capital of Hainan Province of the People's Republic of China and has an estimated population of 830,192 (2006), therefore by far the largest city on the island." Traveling again ...

"Travel is the change in location of people on a trip through the means of transport from one location to another. Travel is most commonly for recreation (as part of tourism or to visit friends and family), for business or for commuting; but may be for numerous other reasons, such as migration, fleeing war, etc. Travel may occur by walking or human-powered mode, or through mechanical vehicles, either as private or public transport." New Orleans

We arrived in New Orleans last night: "New Orleans (pronounced /nuːˈɔliənz, nuːˈɔlənz/ locally and often pronounced /nuːɔrˈliːnz/ in most other US dialects[2]; French: La Nouvelle-Orléans [lanuvɛlɔʀleɑ̃] (help·info)) is a major United States port city and the largest city in Louisiana. New Orleans is the center of the Greater New Orleans metropolitan area, the largest metro area in the state." [source: wikipedia] Lets see --- Kjell
