tour back home
Today we drove my grandmo home. Home is Travemünde on the Baltic Sea and it looked like a wonderfull day. Sunshine and some blue sky, ok it was cold, but ... I started after a tea and some snacks. I was allright a little cold, but not to bad and than after an good hour I saw the first snow. Oh no, the temperature droped and I had to ride in snow and hail. Getting closer to Hamburg, the weather got better and I was finally happy to be home, did my little run and had a hot shower. I was supprised that my mom wasn´t back. She got stuck in traffic and it took her 1h longer than me. That is the first time I bet her on my bike against the car...

Last race and first in the end ...
The "Sylvester Run" arround the Alster was fun and a good push. I did the 7,5km in 26:21Min. and saw the End (the word for the finish by the Team) first and Andre right behind me.
It was fun and enjoyed running arround the Alster and the people who where doing their Sylvester walk. So now its time for some good food and a good win. HAVE FUN out there ---- Kjell

What is sylvester good for, ...
What is sylvester good for, ...? "The term silvester (alternately spelled sylvester or sylwester) is used in certain countries (such as Germany, Austria, Poland and Israel) for December 31st in the Gregorian calendar, New Year's Eve. Swedes don't generally refer to the day itself with this name, but traditionally celebrate Silvester on this day as one of its 365 name days, using that spelling as it's the most common spelling of the name in Sweden. The naming refers to Pope Sylvester I, who died on that date in 335. The introduction of the Gregorian calendar in 1582 moved the last day of the year from December 24th to December 31st which had been named Silvester since 813." [source: wikipedia] and the word means: "In some countries Sylvester (or Silvester) is the name used to refer to December 31st (New Year's Eve). As a name, it means "wooded", from the root Sylvania meaning "forest land" in Latin." [source: wikipedia].jpg)

My sister was looking for ours. And after a little search we found one:
"A Christmas tree, Yule tree or Tannenbaum (German: fir tree) is one of the most popular traditions associated with the celebration of Christmas. It's normally an evergreen coniferous tree that is brought into a home or used in the open, and is decorated with Christmas lights and colourful ornaments during the days around Christmas. An angel or star is often placed at the top of the tree, representing the host of angels or the Star of Bethlehem from the Nativity story." [source: wikipedia] Just two days --- Kjell

LIFESTYLE ...
Thanks to Susann and the Biestmilch-Blog. Another great view on things that are going on and views. Wikipedia is defining Lifestyle as: "In sociology, a lifestyle is the way a person lives. A lifestyle is a characteristic bundle of behaviors that makes sense to both others and oneself in a given time and place, including social relations, consumption, entertainment, and dress. The behaviors and practices within lifestyles are a mixture of habits, conventional ways of doing things, and reasoned actions. A lifestyle typically also reflects an individual's attitudes, values or worldview." [source: wikipedia]

takes a pice of you ...
A couple days ago, I did an easy run with one of the big guy of Ironman and we chated about everything. Talking about racing olympic and long, one thing I keep thinking about: "Every Ironman takes a little pice of you!". Of course this is individuell, but mostly true. There are athletes who focus on one or two races a year (the majority) and than there are athlets who do 12Ironman distances like Petr (minority). My ideas for 2008 are getting closer and more clear. I hope for some fun experience and good results. But first some happy holidays --- Kjell

trying to find the rhythm ...
I arrived 3 days ago and my system is still struggeling with the sleeping rhythm. The Biestmilch Booster defently helped to get close, but I´m up since 5am this morning and no way to go back to sleep.
Here a short definition what a Jet Lag is: "Jet lag, also jetlag or jet-lag, is a physiological condition which is a consequence of alterations to the circadian rhythm. Such alterations result from shift work, daylight saving time, altered day length, or as the name implies, transmeridian travel as on a jet plane. They are known as desynchronosis, dysrhythmia, dyschrony, jet lag, or jet syndrome. The condition is generally believed to be the result of disruption of the "light/dark" cycle that entrains the body's circadian rhythm. It can be exacerbated by environmental factors." core training, very important ...
"Core training for triathletes, By Alex Laws
Nov. 13, 2007 -- We have been hearing so much lately about core fitness yet do we really know why we should do it?
Let me give some light on the situation.
I am a former pro triathlete from Australia who went on to study exercise kinesiology 12 years ago. I was introduced to that big round ball that people use to just look at and never use. No one knew really what to do with them and when they would see me and my client doing these obscure exercises on them that thought we were crazy. Twelve years later it has become accepted and well known and more and more people are becoming educated about them. However I feel that swiss balls are still under-used, as it is such and important tool for anyone participating in any kind of sport." [source: triathletemag.com]

“Live this day as if it will be your last. Remember that you will only find ''tomorrow'' on the calendars of fools. Forget yesterday's defeats and ignore the problems of tomorrow. This is it. Doomsday. All you have. Make it the best day of your year. The saddest words you can ever utter are, ''If I had my life to live over again. ''Take the baton, now. Run with it! This is your day! Beginning today, treat everyone you meet, friend or foe, loved one or stranger, as if they were going to be dead at midnight. Extend to each person, no matter how trivial the contact, all the care and kindness and understanding and love that you can muster, and do it with no thought of any reward.

Found this on the web. I think it is a great story:
"This is to a scenario encouraging us not to rush into judgments.
A woman was waiting at an airport one night With several long hours before her flight. She hunted for a book in the airport shop Bought a bag of cookies and found a place to drop. She was engrossed in her book but happened to see That the man beside her as bold as could be Grabbed a cookie or two from the bag between Which she tried to ignore to avoid a scene. She munched cookies and watched the clock As this gutsy cookie thief diminished her stock.
She was getting more irritated as the minutes ticked by Thinking "If I wasn't so nice I'd blacken his eye". With each cookie she took he took one too And when only one was left she wondered what he'd do. With a smile on his face and a nervous laugh He took the last cookie and broke it in half.
He offered her half as he ate the other She snatched it from him and thought "Oh brother, this guy has some nerve and he's also rude Why he didn't even show any gratitude".
She had never known when she had been so galled and sighed with relief when her flight was called. She gathered her belongings and headed for the gate Refusing to look back at the thieving ingrate. She boarded the plane and sank in her seat Then sought her book which was almost complete. As she reached in her baggage she gasped with surprise There was her bag of cookies in front of her eyes:
"If mine are here" she moaned with despair "Then the others were his and he tried to share"
"Too late to apologize she realized with grief" That she was the rude one, the ungrateful, the thief ..." [source: berro.com]

... backwards ...
"Often people attempt to live their lives backwards: they try to have more things, or more money, in order to do more of what they want so that they will be happier. The way it actually works is the reverse. You must first be who you really are, then, do what you need to do, in order to have what you want." [Margaret Young]

HALLOWEEN ...
"Halloween, or Hallowe'en, is a holiday celebrated on the night of October 31. Traditional activities include trick-or-treating, bonfires, costume parties, visiting "haunted houses" and carving jack-o-lanterns. The term Halloween (and its alternative rendering Hallowe'en) is shortened from All-hallow-even, as it is the eve of "All Hallows' Day",[1] which is now also known as All Saints' Day. Some modern Halloween traditions developed out of older pagan traditions, especially surrounding the Irish holiday Samhain, a day associated both with the harvest and otherworldly spirits. Irish and Scottish immigrants carried versions of the tradition to North America in the nineteenth century. Other western countries embraced the holiday in the late twentieth century. Halloween is now celebrated in several parts of the Western world, most commonly in Ireland, the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the United Kingdom and occasionally in parts of Australia and New Zealand." MARINE CORP MARATHON

I´m back in the Washington area, to do my "post-season friend-support run". Coming here to pace Paul Z., that was the plan. Sadly Paul feels not to good, so he wants me to run with/for Danny his son. I´m happy to do that and for sure we will have a fun time today. It will be Dan´s first Marathon, so it will be my job to slow him down. Sounds strange but most firsttimers overpace and pay at the end of the run. If you are interessted, here is "the course" and the set up is realy nice. Happy running --- Kjell
PS: And Sandy May (my running friend)is doing the 10k race today, good luck!

Listen ...
Found this on my coffee cup this morning (6am, after running at 4:30am): "You can learn a lot more from listening than you can from talking. Find someone with whom you don´t agree in the slightest and ask them to explain themselves at length. Then take a seat, shut your mouth, and don´t argue back. It´s physically impossible to listen with your mouth open." [source: John Moe]
This saying is true and I practise it quite often without thinking about it. But I got often told you are shy, to quite, not interessted or so. But if you realy listen you shut up!
So try to listen --- Kjell
