Working Hours Mean Working Hours

When many Americans think of Germany, images of WWII soldiers and Hitler often come to mind. But what many people don’t realize is that Germany is the industrial powerhouse of Europe, and is a leading manufacturer of goods for export to developing Asian nations. We don’t hear about the superiority of German engineering in Volkswagen commercials for nothing!
The economic engine of the EU, Germany single-handedly saved the Eurozone from collapse in 2012. At the same time, German workers enjoy unparalleled worker protections and shorter working hours than most of their global counterparts. How can a country that works an average of 35 hours per week (with an average 24 paid vacation days to boot) maintain such a high level of productivity?

Dear Airlines ...

where did you lose your customer service. Employees are rude, they don`t want to help and the best thing if they mess up it is my fault.
Problem, you cannot get around them, if you have to travel.

Here and impression of my christmas present box from my last trip back home from germany. This damage was done between SanFrancisco and Spokane.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

THIS IS FUNNY ...

CurryWurst

One of the things I miss from home! The good old CurryWurst: "Currywurst (German pronunciation: [ˈkœʁiˌvʊʁst]) is a German national dish consisting of hot pork sausage (German: Wurst) cut into slices and seasoned with curry sauce (regularly consisting of ketchup or tomato paste blended with curry) and generous amounts of curry powder, or a ready-made ketchup-based sauce seasoned with curry and other spices. It is frequently served at German 'Imbissbuden' and from food trucks." [source: wikipedia]

Not my thing

There are millions in germany going crazy today. Carnival is not my thing at all: "Germany, especially the western part (North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate) is famous for Karneval celebrations such as parades and costume balls. Cologne carnival is the largest and most famous. Cologne, along with Düsseldorf and Mainz, are held in the public media to be Germany's three carnival "strongholds". However carnival celebrations are widespread elsewhere in the region, in places such as Wattenscheid, Hagen, Krefeld, Aachen, Mönchengladbach, Duisburg, Bonn, Eschweiler, Bocholt and Cleves. In parts of East and South Germany and Austria the carnival is called Fasching. In Franconia and the southwest-parts and also some other parts of Germany a carnival is called Fastnacht or Fasnet." Everybody knows, or maybe not!

I knew, but forgot today. Thanks to Susann from Biestmilch to remind me: "20 years ago in Berlin it happened that the cold war ended; at least this is the label we gave this event. I think it has been such a ground-shaking incident that my blog is allowed to pick up, but I refer to a more competent platform with respect to this topic, New York Times “A Division Through Time" ..."
